PRIVATE SESSIONS IN SELF-DEFENCE

SESSION OVERVIEW

We recognise that for some, the prospect of joining a group class can be daunting, and potentially trigger the very anxieties that learning self-defence aims to reduce. This be particularly hard for clients dealing with symptoms of trauma such as dissociation, panic attacks or anxiety. In these instances, a series of 1-1 sessions can prove enormously beneficial in boosting confidence, and aiding with the recovery journey.

Or it might be that the timings of the group sessions don't suit, or you simply want a faster route to learning self-defence.

We also offer private sessions for small groups of up to 6 people, in case you have friends or family that would benefit from the skills as well.

With 1-1 sessions, the learning is tailored uniquely to you or your group, built around your personal goals as well as managing any needs (trauma- based or other) that you may have.

Benefits of 1-1 sessions:

  • Learning pace, depth of material and number of sessions is dictated by client

  • Individually tailored lesson plans

  • Potential to cover more in same timeframe

  • Sessions can be booked at times and dates convenient to client's schedule

  • If recovering from trauma, delivery of sessions can be adapted to manage potential triggers or anxieties. In this instance we would complete a pre-registration phone call with the client to assess how best to deliver the teaching.

Examples of topics covered:

  • Effective striking techniques

  • Practice against focus pads and strike shields

  • Vulnerable areas of the body

  • Techniques for common types of attack such as strangleholds, chokes, bear hugs, grabs and defence from the ground

  • Managing the common 'freeze' response to threat using grounding and breathing techniques

Please note: if any of the topics above are likely to be triggering then the content is either removed or taught with a trauma-informed approach; this will be discussed during the pre-registration phone call.
