ABOUT US
Unbreakable Self-Defence (formally Defence4Women) was established by Tamsin Davis, an experienced martial artist and taekwon-do instructor.
Tamsin is a certified self-defence instructor with a nationally accredited BTEC Level 3 in Self-Defence Instruction (NFPS), and has completed trauma-informed instructor training with the Conscious Combat Club, the world's first provider of trauma-informed martial arts.
She is also an Associate Member of Empowerment Self Defence (ESD), a global organisation promoting an evidence-based and trauma-informed approach to personal safety training that addresses the wide spectrum of violence.

Her background is in martial arts as a qualified instructor with the British Taekwondo Council, and a 4th Dan black belt in taekwon-do; she also trains in kick boxing, Brazilian jiu-jitsu and Russian Systema.
As well as teaching self-defence, she runs one of the only women's taekwon-do clubs in the country and teaches at this and various other classes each week. She is fully DBS-checked, first aid trained, provides all training equipment and holds public liability insurance for all her sessions.

ABOUT EMPOWERMENT SELF-DEFENCE
Violence isn’t always physical.
We recognise that real-life self-defence starts well beyond a physical assault. It incorporates awareness – of our environment, of behavioural red flags, and of the messages we unconsciously send out to others.
It involves being able to effectively communicate our boundaries when they are crossed.
It means believing we are worthy of fighting for.
And if violence does become physical, it means knowing simple and effective defence techniques to fight back and create an opportunity to escape.
BOTH PRACTICAL & TRAUMA-INFORMED
Our programmes understand that when scared, our cognitive functions shut down, meaning that any physical technique must be easy to learn, easy to recall and rely upon gross motor skills to be effective.
We teach you to use the strong parts of your body against the weak areas of your attacker.
We also acknowledge the common ‘freeze’ response to danger, and learn grounding techniques to both self-regulate and prompt a reaction.
Moreover, our programmes also recognise that many individuals choose self-defence training after experiencing an attack or abuse themselves.
That's why our teaching is trauma-informed as standard. We are committed to respecting individual's needs by delivering material with care and sensitivity in a safe and supportive environment.
